Memories
of a Battlefieldby Carol Nicholson
Do you have
dreams or waking pictures in your head of other
time periods you can't explain? Do you sometimes
wonder where a certain habit, fear, or other
unusual behavior comes from? Have you had the
experience of thinking you've been somewhere
before or tugging memories of other places when
reading a book or watching a movie? If so, perhaps
you are experiencing a memory of one your past
lives.
On a Sunday afternoon in 1994,
I had rented the movie "Gettysburg"
which was about the horrific three-day battle
in early July of 1863 between North and South.
I was watching with detached interest the reenactment
of what is now referred to as Pickett's Charge.
As I was watching, I suddenly felt an unaccountable
sadness. Not because of identifying with the
folly of that particular battle charge and the
thousands of lives lost, but because somehow
I knew I had been there. Right in the actual
battle! Like a video playing in my head, I saw
myself on horseback, a young man, very blond
hair, flowing mustache, and could feel my sword
dangling from my side. I sensed a great urgency
and anxiety about the battle about to begin
and saw myself galloping up and down a long
line of foot soldiers shouting orders. As quickly
as it replayed in my head, the vision was gone.
Needless to say, I sat there for a few moments
and wondered, "What was that about!"
Skeptics
say what people remember in past life regressions
are probably false memories or "confabulations"
(made up imagery). Quite the contrary, after
conducting hundreds of past life sessions, the
lifetimes people recall are exceedingly in depth
and emotion packed. Some individuals even express
sensing distinct smells, touching things, and
what the weather was like in that particular
experience. For others, the life recalled is
a shock to find they are another gender or living
in a place or time they never would have imagined.
There
are many well-known authors today such as Dr.
Bruce Goldberg and Dr. Brian Weiss who have
done extensive research and written powerful
books on the topic. Carol Bowman has written
an eye-opening book on the subject of children
and their past life memories. America's 'Sleeping
Prophet', Edgar Cayce, talked about past lives
in his now famous Life Readings. He speaks of
the many gifts and talents people can bring
forward from past lifetimes, which, when remembered,
can be put into practical and spiritual use
today. According to Cayce, not only can past
lives be uncovered, but future lifetimes revealed
as well.
As Cayce
contends, we are the sum total of all our past
lives. Remembering who and where you have been
before is not only interesting but also almost
imperative to understand and heal your life.
Furthermore, you will be able to see people
you have been with before and heal relationships
with greater understanding and compassion.
I believe
everyone should try an experience some of their
past lives. Why? Because you will better understand
better the soul's migration from lifetime to
lifetime. You will have an illuminating understanding
of the role karma plays and the transition between
frequencies of the astral and etheric planes
back into the three-dimensional world we know
of here on earth. You may even come to know
that this is not the only lifetime you will
experience and that you have the opportunity
to come back time and time again to perfect
the soul essence.
For me,
I now know why fireworks exploding over my head
terrify me. I now know they are reminiscent
of the sound of artillery in battle. I now understand
why I have lingered in front of gravesites of
unidentified confederate soldiers unable to
move away when visiting the South. And, beyond
the shadow of a doubt, I know I will live again!
